If you have a four-year-old, you may have heard about GSRP—and wondered whether it could be right for your family. The Great Start Readiness Program is Michigan's state-funded preschool program, offering free, high-quality early education to eligible children in the year before kindergarten. Wee Discover is proud to offer GSRP right here in Waterford Township.

What GSRP is

GSRP is a preschool program funded by the State of Michigan for four-year-olds who meet certain eligibility guidelines. It is designed to give children a strong start through play-based learning, caring teachers, and a classroom built around how young children grow. Because it is state funded, families who qualify pay nothing for the program.

Who can qualify

Eligibility is based mostly on a child's age and family circumstances such as household income, though other factors can be considered as well. In general, a child should be four years old by the state's cutoff date for the school year they would enroll. Because guidelines can change and every family's situation is different, the best step is to ask us directly—we are happy to walk you through it.

How GSRP gets children ready for kindergarten

A GSRP classroom looks a lot like joyful, purposeful play. Children build early reading and math skills, practice following routines, learn to cooperate and share, and grow more independent and confident. These are exactly the skills that help children step into kindergarten ready to learn.
